Needless to say, comparisons with the Soviet Union are utterly absurd. Two possible explanations:
1. People in the Soviet Union were secretly anti-communist but did not speak out in the fear of public shaming (in addition to the very real fear of prosecution by the state). Some ex-Soviet people in the West believe that everyone around them is secretly racist and doesn't speak out only in the fear of public shaming. That makes them admire the shamelessness of Trump.
2. There is also an absurd (originally anti-semitic) conspiracy theory about "cultural marxism" that says that political correctness is a secret plot by the marxists to destroy the Western civilization. Once it is destroyed (by importing immigrants, promoting same-sex marriage, etc.), the marxists are going to take over and institute Soviet-style Gulags.
